We are pleased to share that Patrick Sutherland has recently been appointed as a Partner at Halpin Wealth.
Patrick brings over 15 years of experience in the financial planning profession. His career began in his family’s financial planning business, where he gained valuable hands-on experience in both client relationships and business operations.
He joined Halpin Wealth in 2017 and completed his Professional Year in 2022 to become a licensed financial adviser. Since then, Patrick has become a valued member of the team.
With a Master of Financial Planning and deep technical expertise, he specialises in wealth management, retirement planning, and intergenerational wealth transfer. His approach is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and practical outcomes.
“Every client’s situation is different,” Patrick explains.
“I love helping them find a path that works for their goals and giving them confidence that what they want is actually achievable.”
For Patrick, financial advice is about much more than numbers and projections.
“Most of the meeting is financial planning. However, we also get to catch up on what the kids are up to or where they’ve been travelling. I think the relationships are just as important.”
One client story stands out in particular.
“There was a couple who didn’t think they’d ever be able to retire,” Patrick shares.
“They didn’t understand how Centrelink worked, and they didn’t think they had enough super. But once we walked through it, they saw they could retire on a comfortable income by combining their Centrelink entitlements with a small super drawdown. It completely changed their outlook.”
Patrick is passionate about helping more Australians realise the value of financial advice.
“People often think they can’t afford advice, or that it’s only for the wealthy. But even one conversation can take away a lot of stress and give people a plan. I just wish more people came to us earlier.”
Reflecting on what makes Halpin unique, Patrick says, “It’s a values-driven business and a great team environment. With 14 advisers, there’s so much knowledge to draw on. We can continuously learn from one another so we can provide the best solutions for our clients.”
Outside of work, Patrick leads a full life with his wife and two young daughters, Charlie and Evie, with a third baby on the way.
“It’s pretty busy,” he laughs, “between family time and hockey, there’s not much room for anything else.”
Patrick plays and coaches at Northeast Hockey Club and has proudly represented South Australia in both hockey and golf.
After more than a decade in the profession, Patrick is excited about this next step.
“I’ve seen how much Halpin has grown and where we’re headed. I’m proud to now play a bigger role in shaping that future.”
Please join us in congratulating Patrick on his appointment as Partner.
